WORLD INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY
AUGUST 9TH, 2026
In 1994, the United Nations General Assembly declared that August 9th would be International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. The UN stated that on this day “people from around the world are encouraged to spread the UN’s message on the protection and promotion of the rights of indigenous peoples.” The date marks the day of the first meeting of the UN's Working Group on Indigenous Populations in 1982.
Indigenous refers to people or objects native to a certain region or environment. The ancestry of many of our congregants includes indigenous Native American heritage. At Unity Center of Miami, we celebrate all indigenous people everywhere, as we are all one in God.
NATIONAL SMILE WEEK
THE 2ND WEEK OF AUGUST
National Smile Week is an annual observance held during the second week of August that promotes oral health awareness, positive mental well-being, and the joy of smiling. By encouraging people to smile more and spread happiness, this day also promotes the benefits of smiling for both mental and physical health. SMILE BIG!!!

WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26TH
Women's Equality Day commemorates the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which prohibits the States and Goverment from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex. This Amendment historically granted women the right to vote and initiated the start of the Women's Rights Movement! A great day for all!
